Whirpool is planning to offer workers and employees $1000 to get vaccinated against Covid-19. The new vaccine incentive offered by Whirpool and confirmed to media underscores how several corporate companies are trying their best to win over vaccine-hesitant workers.
Whirlpool Corporation is a leading American multinational manufacturer and marketer of home appliances headquartered in Michigan, United States. CNN report noted that Whirlpool intends to pay workers approximately USD 1000 to receive Covid-19 vaccination.
The vaccine bonus offered comes at a time when the Joe Biden lead U.S Administration prepares an emergency rule that will require large multinational companies such as Whirlpool to ensure their entire workforce is vaccinated or subject unvaccinated employees to weekly testing.
Biden officials stated companies that don’t comply or adhere could face fines up to $14,000 per violation. Whirlpool was also already offering employees a minor vaccine incentive but increased it to $1,000 last week. Chad Parks, a company spokesman, stated that the stepped-up vaccine bonus would apply to staff who were previously vaccinated along with newly vaccinated ones. He refused to reveal how much the previous vaccine incentive was.
The company said in a statement that its employees’ health and safety remain their top priority. The statement read that throughout this pandemic, the staff has been working tirelessly to serve its consumers, who depend on its products more than ever to cook, clean, and provide proper food and medicine storage in their homes and Whirlpool is working to ensure they can deliver.
Whirlpool’s $1,000 vaccine incentive to its employees matches one launched earlier this summer by Vanguard, one of the world’s largest asset managers. Vanguard’s $1,000 incentive applies to the company’s US workforce, which is nearly 16,500 people who show proof of vaccination by October 1, 2021
Several other large companies have also offered more modest vaccine incentives. Kroger has stated vaccinated staff will be receiving a one-time payment of $100, while Bolthouse Farms offered a $500 bonus.
