US H1B Second Lottery: thousands of Indian IT employees to be benefited.

The United States will conduct a rare second lottery for the US H1B visa to decide on the successful applicants. The USCIS has announced a move that would provide another chance to several Indian IT employees who were not allowed in the first random selection of H-1B visas.

USCIS (The US Citizenship and Immigration Services) said that the decision came after determining that the computerized lottery for H1B visas conducted earlier this year did not give them enough number of Congressional mandated H1B visas.

The H-1B visa is the most sought-after visa among Indian IT employees. It is a non-immigrant visa that allows American companies to employ foreign workers in specialty occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise.

USCIS said in a statement, “We decided that we needed to select additional registrations to reach the Fiscal Year 2022 numerical allocations. We chose previously submitted electronic registrations using a random selection process on July 28.”

It further said, “The petition filing period based on registrations selected on July 28 will commence on August 2 and end on November 3. Individuals with selected registrations will have their myUSCIS accounts updated to include a selection notice, and also includes details of when and where to file.”

H1B Second Lottery for IT employees

The USCIS’s move to conduct a second lottery will give a second chance to many applicants, including several Indian IT employees, who could not make it in the first random selection of H-1B visas.

The federal agency said that only petitioners with selected registrations for the financial year 2022 are eligible to file H-1B cap-subject petitions. The initial filing period for those with registrations chosen for 2022 was from April 1, 2021, through June 30, 2021.

The USCIS said an H-1B cap-subject petition must be filed appropriately at the right service center and within the filing period shown on the relevant registration selection notice.

However, Online filing is not available for H-1B petitions. Petitioners need to do so by paper and must include a printed copy of the applicable registration selection notice with the FY 2022 H-1B cap-subject petition.

Additionally, Registration selection only means that petitioners are eligible to file H-1B cap-subject petitions; it does not indicate that the petition will be approved.
