TCS wins 10-year contract with Transport for London

Leading IT company Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (TCS) announced that it had been selected by Transport for London (TfL) to implement, design, and operate a new intelligent mobility system for administration of taxi as well as private- hire vehicles in London. Transport for London (TfL) is a local government body responsible for most of the transport network in London, including the Docklands Light Railways, London Underground, buses, taxis, river services, etc.

Over the 10-year contract, which can also be extended by five years, TCS will help in digitally transforming taxi and private-hire licensing and administration. The company said in a statement that through this partnership, TCS will also implement continuous innovation and improvements, responding to rapidly changing industry trends and customer demands. The size of the deal is yet to be disclosed.

TCS will also be designing and introducing the new system using its DigiGOV framework for rapid digital transformation. The company noted that the system would include an on-demand data and records management system that will enhance the user experience by offering services such as licensing payments and refunds to vehicle operators and owners through digital channels.

The scope of work includes personal detail processing. streamlining bookings, vehicle inspections, etc. TCS said in a statement that this digital shift by design would encourage a self-service approach among licensees. It added that the new solution would be scalable with data hosted on AWS cloud to accommodate future growth and resilience so users and customers will not have to face outages during operational hours.

Amit Kapur, country head for TCS UK and Ireland, said that the new TCS-designed technology system will meet Transport for London’s key objectives, enhance the customer experience as well as enable future requirements, including shared, connected, electric, autonomous vehicle registrations.
