Rajesh Gopinathan holds the position of Chief Executive Officer(CEO) and Managing Director for the renowned IT services prominent Tata Consultancy Services, widely known as TCS. It is rumoured that Rajesh Gopinathan’s salary is huge enough to make people turn their heads.
Rajesh Gopinathan was born in the year 1971 in Thrissur, in the southern state of Kerala. As far as his education is concerned, Rajesh graduated in the year 1994 with a BTech degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Regional Engineering College in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu(Now renamed as the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli). Rajesh Gopinathan continued his education after his Bachelor’s and secured a post-graduate diploma in Management PGDM, similar to an MBA. He obtained it from the Indian Institute of Technology in Ahmedabad.
Rajesh Gopinathan started his journey with the Tata group in the year 1996, where he primarily worked on multiple assignments with Tata companies; Rajesh joined Tata Consultancy Services in 2001 from the Tata Industries and focused on driving the growth of TCS’ newly established e-business unit in the United States of America. He primarily worked in the design, structure, and implementation of the company’s new organizational structure and operating model.
Rajesh also held the position of Vice President – Business Finance. As part of this work, he dealt with the financial management of the company’s individual operating units. He took over as the Chief Financial Officer of the company in 2013. After serving as the Chief Financial Officer of the company for four years, he was elevated to the role of Chief Executive Officer in February 2017.
Rajesh Gopinathan’s salary has always received tons of speculations. His salary working as TCS CEO became an important topic of discussion when his annual salary was increased by 52% year-on-year to over Rs 20 crore in the last fiscal year. This salary hike isn’t rumored, as TCS revealed the salary hike in their annual report for the year 2020-21. Rajesh Gopinathan earned Rs 13.3 crore as salary in the financial year of 2020. The TCS yearly report for 2020-2021 also stated that Gopinathan received Rs 1.27 crore in compensation, Rs 2.09 crore in benefits, perquisites, allowances, and Rs 17 crore commission.
Rajesh has played an instrumental role in helping TCS become a 22 billion global company at the end of FY 2020. With over 469,000 associates, TCS is one of the largest private-sector employers globally, as its workforce amounts to 469,000 employees. TCS was recognized as a Global Top Employer for the sixth consecutive year in 2021, with the highest retention rate in a competitive industry.
The market capitalization of TCS crossed USD 100 billion marks in April 2018.during April 2018, which made TCS the most valuable company in India. Under Rajesh’s leadership, TCS’s brand value grew by $1.4 billion over the prior year to USD 15 billion.
