Indian IT major Infosys is joining top global companies like Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft to expand operations in India, further expanding Hyderabad’s global information technology repertoire.
These top IT companies will establish their largest centers outside their headquarters in Hyderabad and some of Asia’s most prominent development centers.
Infosys’ expansion plan
Indian IT major Infosys is also planning to expand its facility in Pocharam from next year, which will add more software development blocks, food courts, auditoriums, and multi-level car parking. However, it will cost nearly Rs 2,500 crore.
Infosys expects to start construction next year after being awarded environmental clearance (EC) to expand the Pocharam campus in April.
Due to the pandemic, Infosys is revaluating its business expansion plans and is hopeful of clarifying the business environment. According to an official source, by the following year, the company should be re-starting the construction of the new building through which it plans to accommodate a total of 50,000 to 60,000 employees.
The company had submitted an online proposal in February this year to obtain EC for the proposed construction. In April, the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) approved the EC.
According to the proposal, Infosys plans to construct more software development blocks, food courts, auditoriums, and multi-level car parking on nearly 329 acres.
The total built-up area of the campus will increase from 3.87 lakh sqm to 7.74 lakh sqm. In the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, the company had acquired 447.07 acres in 2008 in Ghatkesar Mandal of Medchal-Malkajgiri district.
Infosys has six high-rises in its current facility dedicated to software development. In addition, it has been given seven years to complete the project.
Moreover, Infosys is keen to expand its office space in Hyderabad and has got all clearances required. The facility already employs more than 20,000 people.
