Here is the catch behind TCS, Infosys, HCL, Cognizant and others to hire 1 lakh employees

Top Indian IT companies TCS, Infosys, HCL, Wipro, and Tech Mahindra, are likely to hire over 100,000 people in India due to a significant shift to digital across sectors and increase outsourcing demand post-COVID-19.

It was reported all over the media last week that Top Indian Information Technology firm will recruit over one lakh employees in India.

Who is hiring

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest software exporter, has announced to hire 40,000 people. Infosys plans to hire more than 20,000 people, whereas HCL will onboard around 15,000 employees this fiscal. Cognizant is in the process of hiring another 15,000 freshers this year.

Midsize Indian IT companies are also not behind in Hiring, and Pune based Zensar Technologies has already hired an undisclosed number of freshers in five locations.

What is the catch here

Layoff season is not over yet, and many Software and IT companies continue to layoff employees on the name of performance review during coronavirus pandemic.

However, Indian IT Companies are winning deals that they have never won before.

There is something many people noticed when Indian IT companies are hiring 100,000 news spread. Indian IT Blog is just listing those necessary observations:

Freshers Hiring: More then 85% of the Hiring is for freshers. It’s excellent news for the young engineering graduates. However, considering some of the recent layoffs, these freshers may replace many experienced Software engineers.

There was a time when IT companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, HCL, and Cognizant used to keep a large pool of benched employees to show clients that they have a skilled and ready to deploy pool of employees. The catch was – Most of these benched employee would be freshers who have less salary, easier to deploy in any project, and easy to follow the manager’s instructions as they just started the career. Are you wondering the post-COVID-19 era is taking Indian IT companies back to that model? Time will tell this, till then welcome Freshers to Indian IT Industry.

Selective Hiring for lateral entry: TCS announced to do the selective hirings, and many top Indian IT firms followed the same route. In layman terms, targeted recruitment means hiring someone who has the skills that you need right now or shortly. While it is good news for experienced IT professionals and Software Engineers, it won’t matter if you are not good at Technologies that are in demand. Keep yourself updated with the latest tools and technologies.

Talent-as-a-service: The concept of Talent-as-a-service is not new; however, as per HuffPost, it will stay for long. The idea of Talent-as-a-Service (TaaS), where companies rather than sign people up to the permanent employee, hire workers as and when they need them.
