As the Hybrid work model / Remote working has become a new normal for specific job roles, top IT companies in India and worldwide are evaluating job roles that will enable employees to work from home (WFH) or remotely permanently.
Companies like TCS, Infosys, Maruti Suzuki, and Philips are in the process of setting up new workplace models that will allow employees in specific roles to work from anywhere.
Rajesh Uppal, Maruti Suzuki executive board member, has also confirmed the organization’s plan to evaluate job roles in which workers need not attend office, and they can work from anywhere.
Rachna Mukherjee, Chief Human Resources Officer, Schneider Electric, has repeatedly said that there will be no going back to the 100% office attendance requirement pre-Covid times used to have. She added that the pandemic has given time to reflect, adapt and challenge preconceived notions about work-life and the workplace. The hybrid work model at Schneider is applicable since beginning January 2021.
Companies like Infosys and Wipro are following a hybrid work model for now, with a few employees coming to the office daily while most continue to WFH. Infosys will allow around 33%-50% of its workforce to work from home permanently. At both companies, 97% of employees are attending office virtually.
At Philips, as of now, employees have the option to go back home and work from their native towns vis-à-vis staying in metros. The company is adopting a hybrid workspace model depending on their roles. Employees report to the office three days a week, while two days can be done remotely.
According to NASSCOM, India’s IT workforce accounts for 4.36 million employees, and over 95% of them have moved to work from home model. Tata Consultancy Services has envisaged a ‘Vision 25*25’ policy to have only 25% of its employees work from its facilities by 2025.TCS also has about 97% of its employees working from their homes currently during the pandemic.
Global IT companies are also moving towards Work From Home model.
Last year, Twitter allowed its employees to work from home permanently and said that it would analyze the situation in 2021.
Amazon employs nearly 92,000 employees all over the globe. At Amazon, employees whose positions allow them to work from home can do so through June 2021.
American Express, the global provider of commercial goods and services, has allowed its employees to work from home till Labor Day 2021.
Facebook, the largest social media network worldwide, with more than 2.6 billion monthly active users, has allowed up to 50% of their employees to work remotely forever. The rest of the company can remain remote until July 2021.
At Microsoft, Employees can work from home for approximately 50% of their workweek. Managers have the option to approve full-time remote work for the staff. While many of the employees at Google are currently working from home, and the company will review the situation soon.
