Days after, Police found the burned corpse of a 27-year-old IT employee in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh; techie arrested by the Police, who has seen on CCTV footage carrying the suitcase.
The deceased, named Bhuvaneswari, worked at IT firm Cognizant in Hyderabad; her husband, Maramreddy Sreekanth Reddy, a techie arrested after being tracked down to a place near Vijaywada through his phone, said the Police.
Bhuvaneswari’s burnt body was found near Ruia Hospital on June 23, and Police arrested a taxi driver the next day on suspicion.
When Police interrogated the taxi driver, he told the Police that Mr. Reddy traveled from his home and back with a heavy suitcase and his child. The child was left in the taxi while the accused set the body on fire.
Mr. Reddy hid his crime and told his relatives that his wife had died due to Covid. However, CCTV footage revealed him when Bhuvaneswari‘s relative Mamatha, a trainee sub-inspector, provided footage.
The footage showed Mr. Reddy bringing in a suitcase into the home, holding his little daughter, and rolling the big bag with the other hand.
Later, he was seen struggling to hold the baby and rolling the big bag, apparently heavy.
The video evidence and taxi driver’s statement helped the Police identify the killer, Mr. Reddy, and arrest him. The Police said that Mr. Reddy denied killing his wife during the interrogation and said that her death due to an accidental fall on the floor at their house in the apartment.
The Police also found that he had visited the site thrice where he burned his wife’s body to ensure it was wholly burnt. A dowry death charge that puts the burden of proof on the accused has been listed against Mr. Reddy.
The couple met in the software company where they both worked and got married two years ago. Bhuvaneshwari moved to Tirupati at the request of her husband. The Police also learn that they had frequent arguments in the last few months.
