Cognizant rises as the new CEO factory.

Many vital executives have lately departed the company to lead worldwide firms. Cognizant Technology Solutions has become a CEO factory, with some of the company’s senior executives leaving to lead global firms.

Three former Cognizant executives were named CEOs of significant global corporations in July alone. They were in charge of multibillion-dollar verticals at Cognizant, and each had more than a decade of experience with the US-based software giant.

“Cognizant has a great succession strategy in place to assist its personnel to grow. “However, it is unprecedented that the market has identified so many CEOs from just one company in such a short period,” a recruitment firm official stated.

Nirav Patel was appointed President and CEO of Bristlecone, a Mahindra Group subsidiary, on July 28. Patel was a Senior Vice President (SVP) at Cognizant, where he oversaw the global markets for the company’s Communications, Media, and Technology division, which generated over $3 billion in yearly revenue.

Gajen Kandiah was named CEO of Hitachi Vantara on July 13. Kandiah had been with Cognizant for over 15 years and was in charge of the company’s $3 billion-dollar Digital division.

Similarly, Karthik Krishnamurthy was named Collabera, a global technology talent solutions provider, on July 10. He was previously at Cognizant as SVP and Global Markets Leader.

Attractive choices from Cognizant

These officials, according to Kamal Karanth, co-founder of Xpheno, a specialised recruiting agency, exhibited highly strong/seasoned second-line leadership (some were with Cognizant for 18-20 years). These leaders operate on a scale among the best in the industry (most customers served at the global level). They’re good selections because of their solid vertical orientation and deep domain depth, as well as their duration of experience, he added.

Many vital executives left the company in June 2019, just a few months after new CEO Brian Humphries took on board in April. In June 2019, Kaushik Bhaumik, a senior member of Cognizant’s management team, left to co-found and lead Glide Health. He oversaw Cognizant’s Healthcare division, which is worth $3 billion and employs over 40,000 people.

Debashis Chatterjee, Cognizant’s President of Global Delivery and Digital Systems and Technology, was the next to leave in July 2019 to join Mindtree as CEO and Managing Director. He was in charge of the company’s technology services delivery across all industrial areas. In the same month, Vipul Khanna, a Cognizant veteran, was named MD and CEO of Firstsource Solutions. He grew a start-up practice at Cognizant Digital Operations into a $2 billion, top-5 worldwide BPO business.

Three senior company executives — Pradeep Shilige, Head of Global Delivery; Ramkumar Ramamoorthy, CMD, Cognizant India; and Karen McLoughlin, CFO — left in July, and the market is curious as to where they are going.
