Cognizant has hosted its 2020 annual health and fitness challenge for its employees and their families. More than 18000 employees of the company and their families took part in the virtual 8-week program.
The complete virtual program was organized in partnership with HealthifyMe. Eighteen thousand Cognizant employees and 1000 families across India have participated in the fitness challenge from their home as they work from home.
The program consisted of 30 live webinars, including six on nutrition, eight workout sessions, 11 mental health sessions. In 6 ‘Fun Friday’ sessions, tennis star Somdev Devvarman, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Purav Raja, and comedians Praveen Kumar and Jagan Krishnan told the importance of physical and mental health and their fitness regimens.
Because of the Pandemic, the accent was an innovative indoor exercise such as yoga and indoor aerobics that can be done with no equipment. Cognizant’s employees logged in over 1.70 lakh Surya namaskar sessions, more than 30000 high-knee marching sessions, and skipping sessions.
This health challenge gave particular importance to mental health and wellbeing as stress and anxiety increased due to restrictions on social gatherings and the work from home model. The program also conducted parenting workshops for expectant mothers.
The online food diary was maintained in the HealthifyMe app. 15 lakh food logs were made, and the participants consumed 11 lakh glasses of water. It recorded 880 million steps covering 6.75 lakh km and 843 lakh burning of calories by the employees.
Cognizant gave More than 600 Apple watches, Fitbits, BTWIN bicycles, and Nutribullets to challenge winners and weekly lucky draw winners.
“The wellbeing of employees is a top priority even during normal times. It has become a lot more critical as we navigate the challenges thrown up by the pandemic,” said Rajesh Nambiar, chairman and managing director of Cognizant. “By continuing the tradition of Health Challenge despite the changed circumstances, we have been able to not only help our employees and their families stay healthy, but also create vital moments of togetherness and camaraderie during these times of remote working and social distancing.”
