Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani announced during his keynote address at India Mobile Congress 2020, “I assure you that Jio will pioneer the 5G revolution in India in the second half of 2021 powered by the indigenous-developed network, hardware, and technology components”. 

Keeping this promise in mind, Jio has been working with companies like Samsung and Qualcomm to make this dream to reality. The project involves over 20 Jio partner startups in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, big data, machine learning, the Internet of Things, blockchain, etc. Recently Reliance Jio purchased spectrum worth Rs.57,122 crore in 22 circles across the country, making it the largest buyer of airwaves in the spectrum auction, which commenced on March 1st. The company stated it is preparing for the highly-awaited 5G rollout. 

Airtel recently became the country’s first telecom company to conduct a live 5G services demonstration over a commercial network in Hyderabad. The company has also partnered with Qualcomm Technologies to expedite its 5G services in India. The partnership will enable a quicker and cost-effective rollout of broadband services across India. Airtel’s new integrated service portfolio and Qualcomm Technologies 5G leadership, Airtel will be well placed to usher 5G network service to India that brings the next era of hyper-fast and ultra-low latency digital connectivity,” said Bharti Airtel’s Chief Technology Officer, Randeep Sekhon. Other tech and telecom companies such as Vodafone-Idea, Nokia, Samsung, Vivo, and Oppo are also working towards introducing this network service to India at the earliest.
